As we know, the textile industry is the second one that pollutes the most to the degree that today there are entire islands full of discarded clothing. But on the other hand, it is a fact that we cannot keep our clothes stored if we no longer use them. Donations and second-hand sales that have now become so popular online (click here or here for options) have become incredible options. But what can we do with clothes that are already in bad condition? I asked several friends, designers, etc. and along with what I do, I share several useful options:
Transforma tus prendas / Transform your clothes
You do not need to have great knowledge of sewing. You can cut some jeans to make them skirts or shorts. Dye garments with natural colors to make a tie-dye print or give your scarves a new use by tying them in bags or your blouse like I did . If you are having a hard time getting creative, Pinterest and YT videos will surely help you.
Cut shirts that are already in poor condition into long strips and turn them into rags to clean your house or car.
Toalla para Secar el pelo / A towel to dry your hair
Cotton shirts are very useful for drying hair (even better than most towels) because they are not heavy and do not break hair (especially curly ones) you just have to spread the shirt on your bed put your hair on top and tie the sleeves to create a kind of turban.
Bazares / Second-hand markets
Puedes encontrar más información en grupos de Facebook del lugar en el que te encuentresThere are more and more bazaars that are focused on the exchange of garments. For example, 3 shirts for a pair of pants or accessories. You can find many of them on Facebook
Upcycling
Fortunately, the pandemic forced us all to value our resources more and fashion brands were no exception. Lydia Lavín is a great example. She is transforming garments previously acquired by her clients that they are no longer wearing to carry out an upcycling process. This means that they use the materials to create a new garment. An amazing way to create new things with the minimum waste.
